1940s wooden filing cabinet
A rare 1940s wooden filing cabinet. This is a Government issue cabinet which retains all of its original steel handles, stamped G R . The drawer fronts also have brass label holders. Each drawer has steel frames to support modern suspension files. This cabinet is an example of an early use of plywood over a pine frame. The drawers all run well on their wooden runners. There have been some repairs to the bottom back sections of the side panels which can be seen in the photos. There are also some historic evidence of woodworm in the side panels and the whole cabinet has been treated as a precaution. After sanding and cleaning the cabinet has been finished with a low sheen water based varnish.
The back panel has been replaced with a new piece of plywood. It is now sturdy and ready for use.51cm wide x 65cm deep x 132cm high
