1920s cast iron base machinist stool

This stool was one of several salvaged from a fireplace factory in Lancashire, although they originally came from a textile mill in Cheshire. They were bought second hand at auction in the 1970s for use in the Lancashire factory. This is one of the earliest designs of machinist stool, the cast iron base looking almost Victorian. It is height adjustable by means of a thick threaded seat stem. The seat itself is original to the stool and consists of three layers of hardwood, the top face being mahogany.
